A broken tooth can be a distressing experience that can be caused by an accident, a fall or by biting down on something hard. Fortunately, there are several dental solutions to restore both function and esthetics to the damaged tooth or teeth. Below, we explore the most common options that we use in the clinic, always choosing the most appropriate for the specific case that happens to us and guided by the conservative premise.

1. Reconstruction with composite resin.

For small fractures or chips, reconstruction with composite resin is an ideal option. This material, which is bonded to the tooth, is molded and polished to match the rest of the denture. It is a quick, painless and esthetic solution that can last for many years with proper care.

2. Dental veneers

Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain or resin that are bonded to the front of the tooth. This solution is excellent for larger fractures or when looking to improve the overall appearance of the smile. Veneers not only restore the broken tooth, but also provide a long-lasting and highly esthetic solution.

3. Dental crowns

When the fracture is more extensive and affects the structure of the tooth, a dental crown may be required. Crowns completely cover the damaged tooth, restoring its shape, size and function. They are made of resistant materials such as porcelain or zirconium, guaranteeing a long-lasting and esthetic solution.

4. Root canal treatment

If the fracture exposes the pulp of the tooth, a root canal treatment may be necessary before restoring the tooth. This procedure removes the damaged pulp and seals the root canal, preventing infection and preserving tooth structure. A crown is then usually placed to protect the treated tooth.

5. Extraction and replacement

In extreme cases, when the tooth is severely damaged and cannot be saved, extraction may be the only option. However, the extracted tooth can be replaced with a dental implant, a bridge or a prosthesis, ensuring that the function and esthetics of the mouth are not compromised.

What to do after breaking a tooth?

It is essential to go to the dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and, if necessary, take an analgesic for pain. If you have lost a tooth fragment, store it in milk or saline solution and take it with you to the dentist.

At Miravéco, we understand the importance of a quick and effective response to a broken tooth. We offer several customized solutions for each case, helping you to recover your smile quickly and safely.
