Did you know that tooth loss can have several health consequences? We give you several reasons why you should not stop replacing missing teeth.

Bone loss

When we lose one or more teeth, the jaws suffer a gradual loss of mass, since they no longer receive the impact of the chewing of the lost teeth. The bone loses 0.5 to 1 mm per year.

The dental implant stimulates the bone like a real tooth, preventing bone loss. If an implant is planned when the bone is already damaged, a bone graft can be performed to increase the amount of bone before placing the implant.

Decreased stability of dental prostheses

People who wear dentures are exposed to bone loss over time, which can lead to instability of these dentures. This is because dentures rest on the gums, which also recede when bone loss occurs.

Unstable dentures, in addition to not fitting well in the mouth and being uncomfortable, can cause headaches, neck pain and earaches. They also prevent effective chewing and reduce the pleasure of eating.

Over time, unstable dentures can damage the gums and cause painful ulcers.

Gastrointestinal problems

Poorly chewed food can, in turn, lead to poor digestion. Symptoms of this poor chewing can include heartburn, irritable bowel or constipation.

Poor chewing can also affect the absorption of vitamins, minerals, fiber and protein, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies.
Facial sagging

Bone loss caused by the loss of one or more teeth also has aesthetic consequences, causing the lips and cheeks to sag, giving the appearance of an older person. The lips become narrower, the chin moves closer to the nose and forehead wrinkles are accentuated.

Dental implants are the ideal solution to maintain a young and healthy smile and face.

You can see that losing a tooth and not replacing it can have more consequences and discomfort than you can imagine. If you are afraid of the cost of treatment, ask about our financing system; you have already taken the first step towards the solution.
